蜡染在我国的历史源远流长，因其特点清新淡雅，质朴无华，自古被人们视为珍贵的艺术品。传统手工作作坊中的蜡染制作是以蜂蜡绘图于布上，然后入染除蜡即成，染色过程中土锭渗入蜡缝中可形成一种不规则的独特的纹饰，俗称“冰裂纹”。凡制成的蜡染服装、文化衫、信贷、大型壁挂画、蜡染画、重彩画等均别具一格。张家界蜡染画是以土家族的民俗风情为画像，它体现了土家人的和平、美满、幸福。
With a long history in China, batik is seen as the precious art because of its delightfully fresh and elegantly simple characteristice. The traditional batik in the handicraft workshop dyes a creation with the beeswax in the cloth, and then gets rid of the beeswax. A kind of irregular and special line decoration can be formed in this process, called Ice Crack. Everything is unique when making into batik clothing, cultural shirts, letter bags, large hang-on-the -wall paintings, batik paintings, dark colorful paintings etc. Batik paintings in Zhangjiajie take the folk costumes of Minority Tujia as portrait, reflecting their peaceful, happy life.
